New Redesigned Ford Explorer Expected for 2014-2015
In 2014 and/or 2015, it is anticipated that the 2.0 liter turbo four will become the standard Explorer engine, with the twin turbo V-6 the hi-performance option. The turbo four already pushes fuel economy into the upper 20s. That engine, or a successor, will likely produce the first Explorer with a highway rating over 30 mpg over the next couple of years.
Some insiders feel that an Explorer re-design will come along as early as the 2015 model year. However, some observers feel that the next full re-design will not occur until 2016 or 2017. Most speak about a likely ‘refresh’ in 2014. A full re-design would undoubtedly include a new exterior look. The current more upright design may give way to a more aerodynamic look.
There is also a possibility that a hybrid Explorer will appear in the next couple of years, although it may take longer for a hybrid to be added to the lineup. There is also discussion of the addition of a plug-in hybrid Explorer. It is speculated that such an Explorer would be capable of traveling about 10-20 miles on electricity before having to use any gasoline. Ford’s expanded commitment to both hybrid and plug-in hybrid technology in larger vehicles is very likely as the manufacturer continues to work to meet increasing government fuel economy standards.
Tough Ford trucks have earned a reputation by helping the American people out of plenty of storms, and Hurricane Sandy proved to be no different. From homeowners to professional contractors, the traditionally tough brand has proven its reputation once again by helping out during the recent demolition and rebuilding process.
The smaller Ford Ranger and Explorer were the ideal choices for homeowners who had to begin the storm cleanup by removing large limbs, washed-up debris and damaged garden gnomes with guns from their property. Contractors around the eastern seaboard had plenty of work, and many were inundated with calls from property owners who were under several inches of rain water. Because the polluted water washed in from many of the surrounding towns and cities, residents called on the tougher off=road Ford Trucks to splash through the mud and save the day. To ensure total customer satisfaction, Ford offers customized off-road accessories that prevented the Hurricane Sandy mud from damaging the sparkling finish of their favorite vehicle.
From New York to Miami, citizens around America counted on Ford trucks to pull them through the damage of Hurricane Sandy and into a sunny new world. Contractors had a wide range of choices at their disposal, and professional firms relied on the brute strength and tough durability of the Ford F-350 SuperMax Diesel. Against a tough truck with a name like the Ford SuperMax, everyone knew Hurricane Sandy’s remnants would not last long. The truck was a preferred choice for builders and landscapers who had plenty of material to remove after the storm.
Many Americans who were swamped by Hurricane Sandy also chose the smaller Ford FX2 model because of its 18-inch machined aluminum wheels that had enough clearance to pull heavy trees from the roadways in order to give residents a chance to reenter their homes and recover what had been left behind. Because the Ford Motor Company has several models that are powered by four-wheel drive and deliver peak power with lots of torque, residents can also prepare for the next Hurricane and turn it into a huge mud bog.
